Modular Building Uses

DSC_0005-1A modular building has many uses.  This is due to the fact that the buildings can quickly and easily be installed in just about any location needed and can offer usable space without having to undergo a big construction project.  A modular building is basically the same thing as a portable building – the two terms are often used interchangeably.  Modular buildings are prefabricated buildings that can be easily set up and then moved when no longer needed or when needed in a different location.  A modular building works well when additional storage is needed, as temporary office space during a larger construction project or even in a school when additional classroom space is needed but funding is not in the budget to add on to the school.

So what is it that defines these types of buildings?  Modular buildings are either completely prefabricated from the manufacturer.   A portable building, or modular building, can be used in one location and then moved when the space is no longer needed because it is easy to move intact or can be disassembled and then reassembled.

For example, in a school district if one school has a higher population for a number of years and needs additional space, portable modular buildings can meet those space requirements.  If a few years down the road the student body population decreases at one school and increases at another, the modular building can be moved and set up in the new school to handle the space issues without a major construction project and the ensuing budget issues needed.

When it comes to modular buildings there are many uses.  Here are just a few common uses for a modular building:

Modular storage buildings – A modular storage building is a common type of modular building.  It is an inexpensive way to handle increased needs for storage.  Modular buildings can be used by businesses, both large and small, to hold inventory, stock, equipment, or even building supplies during a planned construction project.

Modular office buildings – A modular office building is a great option during another larger construction project so that the day-to-day operations of the business are not compromised during the upheaval of construction.  A modular office building is also an option when a business has outgrown its current space but is not ready to embark on a large and expensive construction project or when the additional space is needed for only a limited amount of time.  Modular office buildings can be a permanent solution as well and many of the newer buildings have all of the amenities that a more permanent structure has.

Modular school buildings – A modular school building is a very common site within many school districts.  Modular school buildings provide additional classroom space or administrative space when a school’s population outgrows its surroundings.  Modular school buildings are a great solution when space is needed since many school districts do not have funding in their budgets to add on to existing school buildings or to build a new building.  Since population numbers fluctuate, it is also easier to realign the space where it is best needed.

Most modular buildings are metal or steel structures, although a portable building can be constructed with any type of exterior finish.   Modular metal buildings offer strength and durability but are quicker to build than traditional wood frame construction.  A modular building is constructed with an all metal or steel support structure.  In some cases the exterior of the building is also metal and in others it can be covered with another finishing material.

Storage, office space and additional classrooms are just some of the uses for a modular building.  There are plenty more, however, and since a modular building can be constructed in just about any size and with any number of amenities, modular buildings are a versatile option anytime additional space is needed for any purpose.
